How to Replace a Ceiling LED Light
Replacing a ceiling LED light is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes. However, if you are not comfortable working with electricity, it is best to call an electrician. Here are the steps on how to replace a ceiling LED light:
Tools and Materials
- New LED light
- Screwdriver
- Wire stripper
- Electrical tape
Safety First
Before you begin, make sure that the power to the light is turned off at the circuit breaker. You can also test the power by using a non-contact voltage tester.
Remove the Old Light
Using a screwdriver, remove the screws that are holding the old light in place. Carefully lower the light until you can reach the wires. Using wire strippers, cut the wires about 6 inches from the light. Cap the wires with electrical tape.
Install the New Light
Connect the wires from the new light to the wires from the ceiling. Make sure that the wires are connected correctly: black to black, white to white, and green to green. Twist the wires together and secure them with electrical tape.
Lift the new light into place and secure it with the screws. Turn on the power at the circuit breaker and test the light.
