How To Remove Ceiling Light Cover Clips

Ceiling light covers are often held in place by clips that can be difficult to remove. If you need to replace a light bulb or clean the cover, you'll need to know how to remove the clips. Here are the steps on how to remove ceiling light cover clips:

Materials You'll Need:

  • Stepladder or small ladder
  • Screwdriver (optional)
  • Cloth or gloves (optional)

Step 1: Turn Off the Power

Before you start, make sure to turn off the power to the light fixture at the circuit breaker or fuse box. This will prevent you from getting shocked.

Step 2: Remove the Screws (if present)

Some ceiling light covers are held in place by screws. If your cover has screws, use a screwdriver to remove them. Be careful not to drop the screws.

Step 3: Locate the Clips

Once the screws (if any) are removed, locate the clips that are holding the cover in place. The clips are usually located around the edge of the cover.

Step 4: Push or Slide the Clips

Depending on the type of clips you have, you may need to push or slide them inward to release the cover. Some clips have a small tab that you can push to release the clip.

Step 5: Gently Pull Down the Cover

Once the clips are released, gently pull down on the cover to remove it. Be careful not to drop the cover.

Step 6: Clean or Replace the Cover (Optional)

If you are replacing the light bulb, now is a good time to do so. You can also clean the cover with a cloth or gloves.

Step 7: Reattach the Cover

Once the cover is clean or the light bulb is replaced, reattach the cover by aligning it with the clips. Push or slide the clips back into place to secure the cover.

Step 8: Turn the Power Back On

Once the cover is reattached, turn the power back on at the circuit breaker or fuse box.

Tips:

  • If you are having difficulty removing the clips, you can try using a flathead screwdriver or a butter knife to gently pry the clips open.
  • Be careful not to damage the clips when removing them.
  • If you are unable to remove the clips, do not force them. Call an electrician for assistance.
