How To Wire A Ceiling Fan That Has Remote Control

Ceiling fans are a great way to keep your home cool and comfortable in the summer, and they can also add a touch of style to any room. If you're thinking about installing a ceiling fan, one of the most important things you need to do is make sure it's wired correctly.

Wiring a ceiling fan with a remote control can be a little bit more challenging than wiring a fan without a remote, but it's not impossible. With a little bit of patience and the right tools, you can do it yourself.

Tools and Materials You'll Need

Before you start wiring your ceiling fan, you'll need to gather a few tools and materials. Here's a list of what you'll need:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Wire strippers
  • Electrical tape
  • Ceiling fan
  • Remote control
  • Electrical wire
  • Wire nuts

Step-by-Step Instructions

1.

Turn off the power to the circuit that you'll be working on.

This is important for safety reasons. You don't want to risk getting shocked while you're working on the wiring.

2.

Remove the old ceiling fan (if there is one).

If there is an old ceiling fan already installed, you'll need to remove it before you can install the new one. To do this, simply unscrew the mounting screws and carefully lower the fan from the ceiling.

3.

Install the mounting bracket for the new ceiling fan.

The mounting bracket is what will hold the ceiling fan in place. To install it, simply screw it into the electrical box in the ceiling.

4.

Connect the wires from the ceiling fan to the wires in the electrical box.

There will be three wires coming from the ceiling fan: a black wire, a white wire, and a green wire. The black wire is the hot wire, the white wire is the neutral wire, and the green wire is the ground wire.

Connect the black wire from the ceiling fan to the black wire in the electrical box. Connect the white wire from the ceiling fan to the white wire in the electrical box. Connect the green wire from the ceiling fan to the green wire (or bare copper wire) in the electrical box.

Use wire nuts to secure the connections.

5.

Install the ceiling fan.

Once the wires are connected, you can install the ceiling fan. To do this, simply lift the fan up to the mounting bracket and screw it into place.

6.

Install the remote control receiver.

The remote control receiver is what will allow you to control the fan with the remote control. To install it, simply mount it to the ceiling near the fan.

7.

Connect the wires from the remote control receiver to the wires from the ceiling fan.

There will be two wires coming from the remote control receiver: a red wire and a black wire. The red wire is the power wire, and the black wire is the ground wire.

Connect the red wire from the remote control receiver to the black wire from the ceiling fan. Connect the black wire from the remote control receiver to the green wire (or bare copper wire) from the ceiling fan.

Use wire nuts to secure the connections.

8.

Test the ceiling fan.

Once the wiring is complete, you can test the ceiling fan to make sure it's working properly. To do this, simply turn on the power to the circuit and use the remote control to turn on the fan.

9.

Enjoy your new ceiling fan!

Once you've tested the fan and made sure it's working properly, you can enjoy the cool breeze it provides.
