How To Change Light Pull Chain On Ceiling Fan

If the pull chain on your ceiling fan is broken or damaged, you can easily replace it yourself. Here are the steps on how to change light pull chain on ceiling fan:

Tools and Materials Required:

  • Replacement pull chain
  • Pliers
  • Small screwdriver
  • Wire cutters
  • Electrical tape

Steps:

  1. Turn off the power to the ceiling fan at the circuit breaker or fuse box. This is important for safety, as you will be working with electrical wires.
  2. Remove the light fixture cover. The cover is usually held in place by a few screws. Once the screws are removed, gently pull the cover straight down to detach it from the fan.
  3. Locate the pull chain switch. The pull chain switch is typically located on the side of the light fixture. It is a small, plastic housing with two wires coming out of it.
  4. Disconnect the wires from the pull chain switch. Use a small screwdriver to loosen the screws that hold the wires in place. Be careful not to damage the wires.
  5. Remove the pull chain switch. Once the wires are disconnected, you can simply pull the switch straight out of the housing.
  6. Attach the new pull chain switch. Insert the new switch into the housing and tighten the screws to hold it in place. Make sure that the wires are securely connected to the terminals on the switch.
  7. Reinstall the light fixture cover. Align the cover with the fan and gently push it up into place. Tighten the screws to secure the cover.
  8. Turn on the power to the ceiling fan. Test the pull chain to make sure that it works properly.

Tips:

  • If you are not comfortable working with electrical wires, it is best to hire a qualified electrician.
  • When choosing a replacement pull chain, make sure that it is the same length as the original chain.
  • If the pull chain is too long, you can trim it to the desired length with wire cutters.
  • If the pull chain is too short, you can add a small piece of electrical tape to the end of the chain to make it longer.

Conclusion:

Changing a light pull chain on a ceiling fan is a simple task that can be completed in a few minutes. By following the steps outlined above, you can easily replace a broken or damaged pull chain and restore the functionality of your ceiling fan.
