- 14-3 electrical cable (also known as Romex cable, the appropriate gauge for most ceiling fans)

- Wire nuts

- Electrical tape (optional, for additional insulation)

- Wire stripper/cutter

- Voltage tester (non-contact voltage tester recommended)

2. Wiring the First Switch Box:

Run a 14-3 cable from the first switch box to the second switch box. Run another 14-3 cable from the first switch box to the ceiling fan's electrical box. Connect the black wire from the power source (coming into the box) to the common terminal of the first three-way switch. Connect the two traveler wires from the 14-3 cable running to the second switch to the two traveler terminals of the first switch.

3. Wiring the Second Switch Box:

Connect the two traveler wires from the 14-3 cable coming from the first switch to the two traveler terminals of the second switch. The common terminal of the second switch will remain unused in a standard fan/light configuration. Connect the ground wires from both 14-3 cables and the second switch together using a wire nut.

4. Wiring the Ceiling Fan Box:

Connect the black wire from the 14-3 cable coming from the second switch box to the fan's black wire. Connect the white wire from the same cable to the fan's white wire. Connect the red wire from the 14-3 cable to the blue wire from the fan (if applicable, for the light kit). If no blue wire is present, cap the red wire with a wire nut. Connect the bare copper ground wires from the cable and the fan/light kit to the electrical box's ground screw, or a dedicated ground wire within the box.

5. Completing the Installation:

Securely mount the fan and light kit (if included) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure all wire connections are tucked neatly into the electrical boxes. Install the switch plates onto the switches.

6. Restoring Power and Testing:

Once the wiring is complete and everything is securely mounted, restore power to the circuit at the main electrical panel. Test the functionality of the fan and light (if applicable) from both switch locations. Ensure the fan operates correctly at all speeds and the light turns on and off as expected.
