Replacing a Pull Cord on a Ceiling Light
A broken or faulty pull cord can prevent you from easily turning on or off your ceiling lights. Replacing the pull cord is a simple task that you can complete in a few minutes with the right tools and materials.
Materials you'll need:
- New pull cord
- Screwdriver
- Wire strippers
- Electrical tape

Instructions:
- Turn off the power. Before you start working on the light fixture, make sure to turn off the power at the breaker or fuse box.
- Remove the light fixture. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the light fixture to the ceiling. Carefully lower the fixture until it is completely detached.

- Connect the wires. Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the wires. Twist the exposed wires together and secure them with electrical tape.
- Reinstall the light fixture. Lift the light fixture back up to the ceiling and align it with the mounting screws. Tighten the screws to secure the fixture.
- Turn on the power. Go back to the breaker or fuse box and turn on the power. Test the pull cord to make sure it is working properly.
