How to Fix a Broken Ceiling Fan Pull Chain

Gather Your Materials

Replacement pull chain
Screwdriver
Wire cutters
Electrical tape

Step 1: Turn Off the Power

Before you start working on your ceiling fan, make sure to turn off the power at the circuit breaker or fuse box. This will prevent you from getting shocked.

Step 2: Remove the Old Pull Chain

Locate the small screw that holds the pull chain in place. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw, then gently pull the old pull chain out of the fan.

Step 3: Prepare the New Pull Chain

Cut the new pull chain to the desired length. Leave about 6 inches of extra chain at the end so that you have enough to work with.

Step 4: Connect the New Pull Chain

Thread the new pull chain through the hole in the fan housing. Tie a knot in the end of the chain to prevent it from pulling back through the hole.

Step 5: Secure the Pull Chain

Insert the end of the pull chain into the hole in the pull chain holder. Tighten the screw to secure the pull chain in place.

Step 6: Test the Pull Chain
