How to Remove a Stuck Light Bulb From a Ceiling

Changing a light bulb should be a simple task, but sometimes the bulb can get stuck in the socket. If you're struggling to remove a stuck light bulb, don't force it. Forcing it could damage the bulb or the socket. Instead, follow these steps to safely remove the stuck bulb.

1. Turn Off the Power

Before you do anything else, turn off the power to the light fixture at the circuit breaker or fuse box. This will prevent you from getting shocked when you remove the bulb.

2. Wear Gloves

Put on a pair of gloves to protect your hands from broken glass if the bulb breaks.

3. Use a Cloth or Rubber Grip

Wrap a cloth or rubber grip around the base of the bulb. This will give you a better grip on the bulb and help prevent it from slipping.

4. Twist the Bulb Counterclockwise

Hold the bulb firmly and twist it counterclockwise. Do not twist too hard, or you could damage the bulb or the socket.

5. Use a Suction Cup

If you can't get a good grip on the bulb, try using a suction cup. Place the suction cup on the center of the bulb and pull.

6. Use a Potato

This may sound strange, but a potato can actually help you remove a stuck light bulb. Cut a potato in half and push one half onto the base of the bulb. The potato will grip the bulb and help you twist it out.
