Safety First

Before you start working on the ceiling fan, make sure that it is turned off and unplugged. Also, be sure to wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from debris.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Remove the light bulb cover. The light bulb cover is usually held in place by a few screws. Remove the screws and carefully lift the light bulb cover off the ceiling fan.
  2. Remove the old light bulb socket. The old light bulb socket is held in place by two screws. Remove the screws and gently pull the light bulb socket out of the ceiling fan.
  3. Cut the wires. Cut the wires that are connected to the old light bulb socket. Be sure to leave about 6 inches of wire exposed.
  4. Strip the wires. Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation off the ends of the wires. Be careful not to cut the wires.
  5. Connect the wires to the new light bulb socket. Wrap the exposed wires around the terminals on the new light bulb socket. Make sure that the wires are securely connected.
  6. Tape the connections. Use electrical tape to wrap the connections between the wires and the light bulb socket. This will help to prevent the wires from coming loose.
  7. Install the new light bulb socket. Insert the new light bulb socket into the ceiling fan. Make sure that the socket is securely in place.
  8. Install the light bulb cover. Replace the light bulb cover on the ceiling fan. Secure the cover with the screws that you removed earlier.
