How To Replace A Ceiling Light Socket

Replacing a ceiling light socket is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes. By following these steps, you can safely and easily replace a faulty socket and restore power to your light fixture.

Materials you'll need:

New ceiling light socket
Screwdriver
Electrical tape
Wire cutters (optional)

Safety first:

Before you begin, turn off the power to the light fixture at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
Make sure the light fixture is cool to the touch before handling it.

Step 1: Remove the light fixture

Unscrew the screws that hold the light fixture in place and carefully remove it from the ceiling.
Set the light fixture aside in a safe place.

Step 2: Disconnect the wires

Locate the wires that are connected to the old socket. The wires will be held in place by screws.
Loosen the screws and disconnect the wires from the socket.
Wrap the ends of the wires with electrical tape to prevent them from shorting out.

Step 3: Remove the old socket

Unscrew the screws that hold the old socket in place.
Carefully remove the old socket from the ceiling.
