How To Replace Pull Chain Light Switch On Ceiling Fan

Ceiling fans are a great way to keep your home cool and comfortable during the hot summer months. However, if the pull chain light switch on your ceiling fan breaks, it can be a real inconvenience. Fortunately, replacing a pull chain light switch is a relatively easy task that you can do yourself with a few simple tools.

Tools and materials you will need:

New pull chain light switch
Phillips head screwdriver
Wire cutters
Electrical tape

Step-by-step instructions:

Turn off the power to the ceiling fan at the circuit breaker panel. This is important for safety reasons.
Remove the light fixture cover. This is usually held in place by a few screws. Once the screws are removed, carefully lift the light fixture cover off.
Locate the pull chain light switch. It will be attached to the light fixture by two wires.
Disconnect the wires from the pull chain light switch. Use the wire cutters to cut the wires about an inch from the switch.
Strip the ends of the wires about 1/2 inch. This will expose the bare copper wire.
Connect the wires to the new pull chain light switch. Twist the bare copper wires together and then wrap them with electrical tape.
Reinstall the light fixture cover. Make sure that the wires are not pinched or damaged.
Turn on the power to the ceiling fan at the circuit breaker panel.

Your ceiling fan light should now be working properly. If it is not, check to make sure that the wires are connected properly and that the switch is not damaged.
