Installing a New Light Fixture in the Ceiling: A Step-by-Step Guide

Upgrading the lighting in your home can dramatically transform its ambiance and functionality. Installing a new light fixture in the ceiling can be a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few hours with the right tools and preparation.

Step 1: Safety First

Unpack the new light fixture and assemble it if necessary. Strip about 1/2 an inch of insulation from the ends of the wires on both the fixture and the ceiling wires.

Step 4: Connect the Wires

Connect the bare copper wires of the fixture to the correct terminals on the ceiling junction box using electrical tape. For example, connect the white wires together, the black wires together, and the ground wires together.

Step 5: Mount the Fixture

Lift the fixture into place and align it with the mounting screws. Secure the fixture with the screws and tighten them until snug. Turn on the power at the breaker panel and test the fixture to ensure it's working properly.
