Replace the Pull String on a Ceiling Fan Light

Step-by-Step Instructions

Turn off the power to the ceiling fan at the breaker box. This is important for safety reasons.
Remove the light cover. This is usually held in place by a few screws. Once the screws are removed, the light cover should come off easily.
Locate the pull string assembly. This is usually a small plastic or metal piece that is attached to the ceiling fan motor. There should be two wires connected to the pull string assembly.
Disconnect the wires from the pull string assembly. Use pliers to gently squeeze the connectors on the wires and pull them off. Be careful not to damage the wires.
Remove the pull string assembly from the ceiling fan motor. There may be a screw or two that needs to be removed first. Once the screws are removed, the pull string assembly should come off easily.
Attach the new pull string assembly to the ceiling fan motor. Make sure that the wires are connected to the correct terminals. The black wire should be connected to the terminal marked "L" and the white wire should be connected to the terminal marked "N".
Reinstall the light cover. Once the pull string assembly is attached, you can reinstall the light cover. Make sure that the screws are tightened securely.
